Old Pros

Today Nathan went in for a sedated echo cardiogram for his up and coming open heart surgery. What started out yesterday as just having Nathan go into the cardiologists office and having a little gas used on him (like a dentist would do) to perform the procedure, we had several phone calls from Primary Children's regarding exactly what Nathan's health problems were. The hospital then made the decision to have Nathan have an anesthesiologist administer the general anesthesia in a clinic setting. The anesthesiologist pulled Nathan's actual chart and medical history and stated no way would she give Nathan any anesthesia unless he was in the operating room. Apparently Nathan is too high risk to have any anesthesia administered without also providing him a breathing tube as well.

I have to say how much I love Primary Children's. The nurse practitioner assigned in the Same Day Surgery area took us right under her wing and helped us with everything she could possibly think of. She got me spare diapers, a heated blanket, bigger socks, a binkie, and extra tape for Nathan's g-tube. She helped me calm him down because he was so angry after not eating since 3:00 a.m. this morning. The anesthesiologist's name is Maria Fabroccini. She is wonderful!!! Nathan has been under her care several times with different surgeries for his jaw, nissen, g-tube and distractor removal. It was nice to see a familiar face who already knows Nathan.

So as we sit here in the waiting room with all of these nervous parents, we feel like old pros. This hasn't been the first time we've been here and it is far from being the last.

Nice job of writing up what you have been going through to get this echo done for Nathan. I have been wondering how everything is going today. I am glad that you are having a positive experience though, finally, with the anesthesiologist and the nurse. So important to help you feel comfortable as you prepare for the heart surgery. Yes, I would say you guys are getting to be "old pros" at this. I hope Nathan is okay with what is going on today.

I'm glad you found someone you like and a place you love! It's a lot less stressful when you trust.
